The Wildwood Way Book Review

For today’s post, I will be doing a book review of The Wildwood Way by Cliff Seruntine.   I was given a free digital copy of this book by the publisher Crossed Crow Books.   I had been contacted asking about submitting books to me for the possibility of reviewing them here on White Rose of Avalon, which was exciting and I felt incredibly honored.   I am so happy to state that the first book I read by one of Crossed Crow’s authors was exactly a book to my taste.   I will preface my review by stating that I will be keeping this book review spoiler free, as I do with all of my reviews because I really did enjoy this book and want my readers to read this great book also!

The Wildwood Way is a great book that combines Forest Magic and Green Magic knowledge with a personal memoir of a man who has spent his life living in the woodlands.   There is so much practical knowledge of how to survive and thrive while living in the wild forests.   There is a beautiful interspersion of forest and woodland folklore, mostly faerylore, making it something that I truly enjoyed!   I loved just how much respect and true love for nature the author has.   He is a fantastic storyteller that makes one just want to continue to read his stories, whether the ones of his life or the folk tales he writes about.

The practical knowledge of how to survive in the woods is highly useful for everyone that wants to spend time communing in the woods.    This is even true for those that are not Pagans, but I will say that his magical knowledge and belief in and respect for the Fair Folk is even more useful for Pagans and magical practitioners.   I love the way that the book flows and especially find it useful that the book is broken up by the seasons and chaptered by each of the months of the year!   Reading this book is like walking the Wheel of the Year through the Wildwood!   I would recommend this to anyone who adores the natural world of the woods and wants to get to know this magical world from the point of view of a man who has grown up and lived within many of them over his lifetime.    If you do not like a lot of personal stories and personal gnosis then this may not be for you.  However, if you want a book that balances personal storytelling with a massive amount of knowledge and heart, I just know you will adore this book!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my thoughts on this great work of magical non-fiction published by Crossed Crow Books.    I want to take a moment to thank Crossed Crow Books for the free copy of this book and their support of my work!   Does this book sound like something you would enjoy?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
