Welsh Witchcraft Book Review

For today’s post, I have decided to review the book Welsh Witchcraft by Mhara Starling.    This was a book I received as a Yuletide gift from my awesome husband, Andrew, so thank you again, Andrew!   Now this book is a great choice for someone like me, who is obsessed with Celtic myth and faery lore.    It is written by a native Welsh speaker who practices her own version of witchcraft based on her Welsh heritage.

The fact that it is a book about Welsh witchcraft, as well as mythology and legends of the land, that is written by a native Welsh woman makes it a work that is very grounded in personal experience.   I thoroughly enjoyed that she reflected on her own journey as a witch and Welsh woman as she related the legends of her homeland.   She is both engaging and encouraging to all people who are interested in the legends, myths, folklore, and magical legacy of her homeland.   I love that she routinely explained that her exercises could and should be adapted to suit the practice of the individual reading her book.    It was very nice that she freely put forth her own opinions without feeling like she was preaching.   She never makes the reader feel that having a different opinion than her makes them wrong.   This is a great way to approach sensitive topics, and it was something that I appreciated seeing in this work.   While she never sugar-coated her honest thoughts, she was not rude in her way of expressing herself!

This book is a great choice for anyone who feels a connection to the lore of Wales and would like a good primer on the history of magical practice in that land.    It also gives a great jumping-off point to deepen the learning of one or more of the many topics she covers, making it an excellent resource!    I hope you have enjoyed my thoughts on this lovely work.    Are you interested in learning more about the history of magic in Wales?   Will you pick up this book?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
