For today’s post, I have decided to focus on the 7 Gifts of Faery as described by Lucy Cavendish and Serene Connelley in The Book of Faery Magic. Seven is a very important number in reference to magic in general and it is especially true of the magic of a Faery nature, exemplified by the seven-pointed Faery or Elven Star.
Celtic and Avalonian magical traditions are intimately connected to the energy of the Fae folk. Although Fae exists in every corner of the world and can be seen within every pantheon of Gods, there is a very special link between Celtic lore, and by extension Avalon, to the magic of Faeries. The Otherworlds are essentially Faery realms, whether it is Annwn, Tir na nOg, or Avalon (to name just a few), all are different realms of Faery!
The 7 Gifts of Faery as described by Cavendish and Connelley build on this tradition of Faery both as beings and as Otherworldly lands. It explains how we can connect to the energy of the Fae, or simply grow closer to the natural world (if you are more or a skeptic where the Fae are concerned). I will briefly outline each of the gifts, as well as associations with other things that are famously broken into sevens. The connections to astrological planetary alignments and days of the week are my own deepening of their material, inspired by the book Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn, which is where I got the correspondences below.
Gift 1: Ancestry
~Connected to the Root Chakra this is the most basic gift of Faery if we look at each as building upon one another, just as the Chakra system does as it moves up our spines. The color associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment is Red. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is associated with Saturn and by extension the day of the week, Saturday. It is a gift of deepening into our own ancestral roots and the shadow work of finding who we are in the most intimate depths of our souls!
Gift 2: Sensuality
~Connected to the Sacral Chakra this is the gift of truly indulging in our own bodies and relishing in the physical world of sensation. The color associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment is Orange. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is related to Mars and by extension the day of the week, Tuesday. It is the gift of relishing in our senses and our desires, most especially lust.
Gift 3: Power
~Connected to the Solar Plexus Chakra this is the gift of personal empowerment and inner sovereignty. The color associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment is Yellow. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is related to the Sun and by extension the day of the week, Sunday. It is the gift of taking back our own innate power and boldening ourselves for new ventures.
Gift 4: Love
~Connected to the Heart Chakra this is the gift of feeling love for ourselves, our families, our friends, and our world (especially the natural world). The colors associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignments are Green and Pink. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is related to Venus and by extension the day of the week, Friday. It is the gift of giving ourselves the time and space to truly grow and self-care, a reminder that we must first love ourselves. Eventually, as we love ourselves that cauldron of love will overflow and allow us to spread love to those closest to us!
Gift 5: Expression
~Connected to the Throat Chakra this is the gift of being able to verbally express oneself and make our voices heard. The color associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment is Blue. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is related to Mercury and by extension the day of the week, Wednesday. It is the gift of expression in other terms as well, as we can activate it by singing and dancing, just as much as by speaking, as all are ways to express our inner truths.
Gift 6: The Sight
~Connected to the Third Eye Chakra this is the gift of being able to see the Fae or even simply to see what others may not. The color associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment is Indigo. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is related to the Moon and by extension the day of the week, Monday. It is the gift of increased psychic ability and intuition, which also makes it a gift of trust in oneself.
Gift 7: Communion
~Connected to the Crown Chakra this is the gift of being able to commune with the divine, both within ourselves and the divine energies of the universe. The colors associated with this gift, through its Chakra alignment are Violet and White. Within the seven primary planets in astrological terms, this gift is associated with Jupiter and by extension the day of the week, Thursday. It is the gift of alignment and synthesis with energies greater than ourselves.
