For today’s post, I have decided to share a poem that I have written about Winter in Avalon!
Yuletide in Avalon
by Maranda Wabik
Snowflakes dancing
In the air
Fir trees blanketed in snow
The Isle of Avalon
Is ready for Solstice
Morgana le Fay
And the Ninefold Sisterhood
Reside on the Isle
Where they preside over
The Yuletide Magick!
Winter faeries enchant the Isle
To bring a
Bright and Merry
New Year!
As the Wheel Turns
Avalon yearns to
Be the home of
Those who are magical in their souls!
During the dark Winter
Avalonian apples
Shimmer in the snow,
Beacon of dreams and hope!
~Blessed Yuletide and Happy Holidays to all! I hope that you have enjoyed this poem. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
That’s nice. Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask you, since Avalon is your wheelhouse and mine is not. I have some friends who are of the opinion that Avalon is a hard location somewhere of the coast of the Eastern Seaboard of New England, more than likely Maine. I forget where they said or which book they read it in.
I’d always taken Emain Ablach to have been a spiritual metaphor, rather than a necessarily objective, ironclad place. But I’ve been wrong before and will be again. Have you heard of this theory, and do you think Avalon was a hard spot one can set foot on, or something else?
Oh,and a Glad Yuletide to you!

I have heard so many varying theories to where the real world Avalon once was. I think it may have been a real world physical place, but more likely a realm of Faery that existed just across the veil from that real place. The most common location associated with Avalon as the real world location is Glastonbury England, but I know there is belief that it’s near New England, and I’ve even heard of claims it was once in Main land Europe (France I believe, which makes sense given the French Arthurian tales). At the end of the day Avalon is definitely a land of Faery and spirit that in some ways can be said to exist everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Whether Glastonbury or somewhere in near New England once housed the real location is forever going to remain a mystery, and I think that makes it all the more beautiful to be honest. So to answer your question, I do not know if I believe Avalon was ever completely physical in this realm, but I am open to the idea of it being possible. Mostly, I see Avalon as a Faeryland and a place of Spiritual power whether it was ever physical or not! I hope you don’t mind my rambling as I attempted to answer your query. Blessed Yuletide and thanks for reading!

Never apologise for rambling. I like depth in comments, the bigger the better. I’ll have to dig deeper. I just can’t imagine why New England. France makes sense to me, geographically, and Glastonbury seems like a fitting default. But here in glorious New England is so far afield… but our ancestors were much more fleet of foot than the science today allows, so I shouldn’t be so picky. Oh! And while i have you here, there’s a book called “New Edda.” It’s worth a read, it has a lot of fairy lore (lack of better terms) from more of a Northern Tradition perspective you might enjoy.
