Favorite Male Vampire Characters

For today’s post, I have decided to take a look at some of my favorite male vampire characters, in no particular ranking.

Dracula

~Dracula is the most obvious choice of male vampire character to list as a favorite.   He is the eponymous character of the novel that really cemented the vampire as the favorite literary, and later film, monster icon!

Lestat de Lioncourt

~Lestat is the best of all of Anne Rice’s vampires.   He is someone that truly revels in being a vampire, making him a very fun character to read about!    I adore his personality and his desire to live his un-life to the fullest.

Louis de Pointe du Lac

~Louis is the eponymous vampire in Anne Rice’s first book Interview with the Vampire.   While he lacks Lestat’s adoration of being a vampire, he is still an intriguing character.   He is a vampire who is self-loathing, which was a newer concept in the 1970s when the novel was published.   He is the template for whiny and brooding vampires everywhere!

Angel

~Also known as Angelus, he is the vampire that got his own series after his popularity in Buffy the Vampire Slayer!   He is again of the brooding type of vampire, but his love story with Buffy set him apart.

Spike

~Another Buffyverse vamp.   He was originally a poet named William, which is why his other moniker was William the Bloody.   His relationship with Drusilla is one of the more complex in this series!

Barnabas Collins

~Dark Shadows only really took off when this vampire made his screen debut in the late 60s and early 70s soap opera.   Johnny Depp also tried his hand at playing this iconic character in the Tim Burton film adaptation!

Damon Salvatore

~Damon is my favorite of the Salvatore brothers.   He is the bad-boy vampire who is willing to do anything to help those he loves.   He always said it’s fine to be bad, as long as you were bad with a purpose!

Stefan Salvatore

~The good brother to Damon’s bad brother.   It is initially Stefan that the viewer is supposed to root for.   His personality is shown to be more complex when he is revealed to also have been the famed “Ripper of Monte Ray.”

Klaus Mikaelson

~My favorite of the Vampire Diaries universe vampires, at least in the series.   Damon is my favorite in the novels.   Klaus is the Original Hybrid who has megalomaniac tendencies.   He is an artist as well as a leader of many vampires over the centuries!
