My Top 5 Favorite Vampire Novels

I have decided to do a countdown of my favorite vampire novels for today’s post.   The two highest ranked ones on this list nearly tied, but I had to separately rank them, so this is where I put them after much thought!   I realize that some of these are technically series, but it is my list, so I used my own rules. Without further ado, here’s the list.

Number 5: Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu

~Carmilla is one of the most iconic classic vampire tales.   However, it is unlikely to be one that is necessarily read by many vampire fans.

Number 4: Dracula by Bram Stoker

~No one could do a vampire book list without including the most iconic vampire of all time!   The actual book is something that is definitely worth a read if you have only experienced the tale in film form.

Number 3: Thirst by Christopher Pike

~This young adult novel series was first published in the 90s under the title The Last Vampire series.   After the vampire boom of the early aughts, he was able to continue the story of 5000-year-old vampire Sita in the series which is now called Thirst.

Number 2: The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

~One cannot do a list of great vampire novels without including a nod to this Queen of vampire fiction.   She gave us so many vampires and so many tales of her favorite creation, Lestat!

Number 1: The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

~My favorite vampire novel is the series by L.J. Smith that became one of my favorite television shows!   The first seven books, the canon ones written by Smith, are so awesome.   Elena is a fabulous character that is nothing like the television version!   If you have not read these books, I highly recommend them, well the first 7, the others can be skipped as they were written by a ghostwriter (and not nearly as good as the earlier ones).

Special Mentions:

Dracula, My Love by Syrie James

~I did this as a special mention because it is a re-imagined version of Dracula that is very fun, and from Mina’s perspective.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side & Jessica Rules the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

~These two books are adorable young adult novels about a girl that finds out she is a vampire princess by birth!

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

~This trilogy takes a great version of vampires and witches, as well as of vampire and witch love stories!
