I wanted to announce a special theme week starting tomorrow for this bonus post. This week is in honor of the ancient festival known as Aphrodisia! This ancient celebration of the Goddess Aphrodite was said to be celebrated around this time each year, approximately the third week of July through the third week of August in our calendar. That is why I have chosen to do this week now! Each day will focus on a different aspect of this complex and multi-faceted Great Goddess. I hope that my readers will enjoy joining me on this quest to learn about and honor Aphrodite!
What did they do to celebrate?

There would have been love rituals and certainly people asking to find love. Much of what was done to honor and worship Aphrodite but on a grand scale. I don’t know of any exact lists of events, as some things would likely have been done by mystery cults to her and they certainly didn’t share the info. Much like we have no idea exactly what happened during the eleusinian mysteries.

That’s fair. I gathered that was likely the case. What I didn’t know was if Aphrodite had a gob of tertiary functions like the Latin Venus. Venus was a love Goddess, but she was also Venus Genetrix, Victoria, etc. But at the end of thenday, before Augustus, most of the Roman Goddess cults were highly secretive, and the Etruscans left precious little to go on with how they did their Goddesses. As far as I know.

She definitely had numerous aspects, as she is a true Great Goddess. In fact, Her aspects are what I am focusing on each day of this week!
