For today’s post, I would like to take a look at the process of choosing the crystals that work best for you! Working with crystals can be as simple or complex as you would like to make it. Each of us, that works with crystals, feels drawn to the energies of certain crystals more so than others.
When it comes to choosing which crystals will work best for you, I recommend reading up on the associations and meanings of crystals. The Crystal Bible, The Crystal Witch, and Crystal Bliss are all good resources for the beginner crystal worker. They all contain overviews of the meanings behind certain crystals, and how they can be used magickally (if that is your intent).
Now, knowing the meaning of the crystal is just one facet of figuring out if it will be one of your main working crystals. There is also the factor of if it is a crystal that speaks to you on a deeper level, spiritually for instance. It should not be forgotten that knowing your intention when you are doing any sort of working with crystals will impact your choice of stone. Crystals of all sorts can be added to sachets and charms to help heal, protect, and bring good fortune. They can also be used for darker purposes, but I will not be elaborating on using them to hex anyone!
My main working crystals are rose quartz, morganite, sapphire, lapis lazuli, amethyst, and carnelian. These are just the six crystals that I work with and wear most regularly, but I do utilize many others as well. For me, these call to me due to them fitting into my own life path and personality. Sapphire is my birthstone, given I was born in September, and it is a stone associated with loyalty and royalty. Lapis is a stone associated with protection and psychic ability. Rose quartz is a stone of love, and beyond the romantic affiliation is also about self-love and self-respect. Carnelian is a stone of passion and sexual energy. Morganite is a stone associated with joy, but also empowerment. Amethyst is one of the most powerful psychic stones, as it increases prophetic awareness! All of these appeal to me on many levels, and when I wear them or meditate with them I feel more in sync with my highest potential!
Now, all of these are specific to me, but I do encourage any of my readers interested in crystal work to look deeper into what works for them. Working crystals is a very personal thing, and before you start understanding your intent is key! If you are looking for a more basic application you can utilize crystals to balance your chakras. Garnet is good for the root chakra, carnelian is good for the sacral chakra, citrine is good for the solar plexus, rose quartz is good for the heart chakra, sodalite is good for the throat chakra, lapis lazuli is good for the third eye chakra, and amethyst is good for the crown chakra! Lapis can also be used for the throat, amethyst can also be used for the third eye, and clear quartz can be used for the crown chakra. There are actually many options for crystals for each chakra, I have only listed my favorites for each chakra (and a few alternates) here, so do not be afraid to try other combinations!
For those looking to go deeper into their understanding of crystals, there is always the option of learning Reiki as well. Take this one step at a time, and you will be able to work intelligently with crystals! I hope that this post has helped anyone beginning on the journey of learning about crystal usage gain a little bit of insight into choosing working crystals.
