For today’s post, I have decided to go through a list of my favorite magical songs. This is a list that is heavily saturated with rock and roll, as I am a huge fan of classic rock. I also have to admit that certain favorites, like Stevie Nicks, make more than one appearance here. In total Stevie makes seven appearances on this list she is the White Witch, after all!
Black Magic Woman by Santana, original by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac
~This one is such a great tune to dance to, the Santana version makes for an exotic and slightly darker beat!
Witchy Woman by The Eagles
~A classic rock song that celebrates all those witchy women around.
Season of the Witch by Donovan
~Dark and deep, with a soulful sound. This is a true rocker that is all about the power of magic.
Wild Witch Lady by Donovan
~Yet another magical one by Donovan. These types of songs were popular amongst the counterculture of the 60s.
Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne
~This ode to the infamous magical practitioner Aleister Crowley just had to make this list.
How Soon Is Now by The Smiths, redone by Love Spit Love
~The original version of this tune is a slow and deep dive into the esoteric. The cover was famously used in two witchy ways in the 90s, first in The Craft, and then as the theme song of my all-time favorite television show Charmed!
Witch’s Promise by Jethro Tull
~Gotta love this folk-rock ode to all things witchy.
Strange Brew by Cream
~A magical one by this great 60s band where Eric Clapton was made famous!
Which Witch by Florence and the Machine
~Florence was a practicing witch herself before making her break in the music, giving this a reality other songs would not have!
And He Slayed Her by Liz Phair
~This 90s rocker is a girl-power take on magic.
I Put a Spell on You by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
~This is the classic and oft-covered, song that most people first think of when they think of witchy or magical music.
Witchcraft by Frank Sinatra
~How could Sinatra, and his take on magic, not rank here?
The Witch by The Sonics
~A great song, by a quiet fun band.
That Old Black Magic by Ella Fitzgerald
~Another absolute classic that has been covered many a time. This one is best with the sultry voice of Ella Fitzgerald though!
Waking the Witch by Kate Bush
~I adore Kate Bush and her haunting and oft melancholic sound. So she just had to be listed here!
Cupid Carries a Gun by Marilyn Manson
~This one is a dark and heavy rocker that was used as the theme song for the short-lived, but terrific, television series Salem.
Spellbound by Siouxsie and the Banshees
~With a name like the Banshees it is unsurprising that they would make a truly iconic magically themed song like this one.
Witches Song by Marianne Faithfull
~I really love Marianne Faithfull, both for her folk-rock songs, and her incredible, and crazy, life!
Nightbird by Stevie Nicks
~This one is a haunting song that shows a bit of a darker edge to magic, at least as far as Stevie Nicks is concerned.
Silver Springs by Stevie Nicks
~A melodic song that is as sweet as it is magical. This one was written by Stevie Nicks for her mother!
Seven Wonders by Stevie Nicks
~A beautiful song that was used to perfection in a magical training sequence for American Horror Story: Coven!
Dreams by Stevie Nicks
~Melodic and entrancing, this one makes you want to reach for the stars, and never quit!
Crystal by Stevie Nicks
~Inspiring as well as lovely, this one was used beautifully in Practical Magic!
Sorcerer by Stevie Nicks
~This one’s title tells it all, it is about both relationships and magical practitioners!
Rhiannon by Stevie Nicks
~Of course, a witchy magical song list would never be complete without Stevie Nicks’s signature song! She was first called the “White Witch” because of the popularity of this song, off the first Fleetwood Mac album she was a part of. She famously introduces this one during concerts as a “Song about and Old Welsh Witch” proving its magical fortitude!
~I hope you have enjoyed this list of magical songs! I could not rank this list, as I love all of these songs, and it is near impossible to choose favorites. This is the perfect list of songs for those who want to add a little more magic into their daily lives! Did I include your favorite magical song here? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
