Many fairytales take place in a woodland setting. This is something that I have always adored, and my husband and I used this as an inspiration at our wedding! Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to get married in the middle of the woods, and this weekend I got to do just that!
We got married at a camp that my Aunt knew, and it was the perfect woodland setting for our wedding. There was an outdoor altar for the ceremony, and a gazebo and covered bridge for photographs. We did our first look our in the middle of a wooded grove right before our ceremony.
Our best friend, Amie, read three poems, and then we did a self uniting marriage (in our state you can legally marry yourself with a self uniting marriage license)! It was a beautiful family wedding, and we had a chance to take many gorgeous nature photos with our loved ones before the reception.
The whole day was a dream! My best friend did my makeup and hair in a way that made me look like a woodland faerie queen. I had a rose gold and pearl hair band shaped in leaves and vines. I also wore baby’s breath in my hair. Amie said that my makeup ended up looking like Aurora in Sleeping Beauty!
Our cake topper at the reception was a fairy and a knight. There were books and flowers and candles in the centerpieces (Amie and I did all the centerpieces and flowers). The books were mostly fairytale, Arthurian legend, and romance related (carrying the faerie theme through the reception)! My bouquet (which I made myself) had red and white roses, white daisies, baby’s breath, and some greenery tied together with champagne colored ribbon and faux pearls! There was great food and great music, lots of laughter and love to go around on our special day!
I am so thankful for all the help we had with the wedding! My cousin found us flowers to use, and my Aunt put us in contact with the venue, caterer, and photographer. Andrew, my husband, has a family friend that did our DJ work, and he did an incredible job! My parents and Andrew’s father were so supportive. Amie made a really heartfelt toast that had everyone in tears! The whole of our families really made our day by spending it with us, and giving their warm wishes! It truly was our perfect day!
We are so happy to have lived out this beautiful life event with our closest loved ones! I went barefoot at the reception (a la Rapunzel in Tangled and Aurora) because it was more comfortable! My wedding band is even entwined vines!
I truly felt like I was living in an enchanted forest during the wedding! I had to write about this to share my happiness with my readers. I hope you have enjoyed reading a bit about our special day. Let me know some of your special memories in the comments below!
