My third Valentine’s Day, for Love Week, list is here! Fairytales are an obvious place to find romantic tales, but that does not mean all fairytale couples are made equal. Here are my top ten!
Number 10: Cinderella and Prince Charming
~Cinderella and Charming fell in love when they met at a ball. During this tale Cinderella goes through much change in the course of the story in order to find her own power against her step mother and sisters!
Number 9: Snow White and Prince Charming
~Snow White is awakened by true love’s kiss, or in the Grimm version the coffin falling and the piece of poison apple dislodging from her throat. Snow White grows ready while she is asleep, and finds true love with her Prince! One of my favorite versions of this story is in Once Upon a Time!
Number 8: Ariel and Prince Eric
~The Little Mermaid makes a deal with the sea witch in order to have a chance at love. In the Disney version she wins the love of her prince Eric! In the original Hans Christian Andersen tale she does not win his love, and dies instead.
Number 7: Aurora and Prince Philip
~In Sleeping Beauty Aurora and Philip fell in love in the forest not knowing they were destined to marry. That is the Disney version, but in other versions she must sleep to grow ready for eventual true love!
Number 6: Belle and the Beast
~Belle took her father’s place as prisoner and ends up falling in love with a beast. Her love transformed him into the Prince he truly was!
Number 5:Giselle and Robert
~In the Disney film Enchanted Giselle comes to the human world, and ends up falling for Robert, a single father. This tale is sweet and romantic and turns the fairytale on its ear!
Number 4: Odette and Derek
~Odette is the Swan Princess and Derek is the Prince who loves her. His love helped to save her life and lift her curse!
Number 3: Rapunzel and Flynn Rider
~In the Disney movie Tangled Rapunzel’s prince is traded for the thief Flynn Rider, whose real name is Eugene Fitzherbert. Together they go on an adventure and fell in love as he showed her the world outside her tower!
Number 2: Emma Swan and Killian Jones
~In Once Upon a Time Emma Swan (daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming) ends up finding true love with Killian Jones (Captain Hook)! I adore the way this show blends all sorts of fairytales and legends!!!
Number 1: Buttercup and Westley
~My all time favorite fairytale couple is Buttercup and Westley from The Princess Bride! Both the film and book are equally amazing, and I highly recommend getting lost in this beautiful fairytale world!
Note: I realize some of these are characters from modern movie and film versions of famous fairytales.
